Welch and Green help launch statewide Kentucky Rx Card
Council members Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) and Judith Green (D-1) along with Metro Council President David Tandy (D-4), Dr. Adewale Troutman of the Metro Public Health and Wellness Department and Joe Reagan of Greater Louisville Inc on Thursday, June 4th helped launch a new statewide program which focuses on cost effective and affordable prescription drugs.
"Councilwoman Green and I are excited about bringing this program to our constituents as well as the whole Louisville Metro community," says Welch. "We are so pleased that some many key partners have come on board with us in this endeavor to assist those in our community with health care needs. As council women with healthcare backgrounds, we certainly understand the remedy that this program can provide."
The Kentucky Rx Card is free to all residents of the Commonwealth and can provide savings of 75% on prescription drugs with an average savings of around 30% on costs. The card also covers lower costs for eyeglasses, diabetic supplies, dental supplies and vitamins.
Key parts of the program:
- No restrictions to membership
- No income requirements
- No age limits
- No applications to fill out
"This program is one of the easiest we have seen to enroll in," says Green. "The big thing for anyone is the potential saving at a time when many are worried about the economy and their healthcare needs."
Over 50,000 national and regional pharmacies across the country will accept the card. The card can also be used by those who do not qualify for publicly funded programs such as Medicaid and Medicare.
"When we heard about this on our National League of Cities trip in March, we knew this discount KY RX Card was something critical to the needs of those who are losing their health insurance due to job losses," says Welch.
The program is a partnership between the Councilwomen, the Metro Public Health and Wellness Department, the Kentucky League of Cities, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executives and GLI.
"We also want to thank the many great partners we have in this venture," said Green. "This will not only help Metro Louisville but everyone who need help in the Commonwealth of Kentucky."
